MY LIFE (BALI 2009-2010)

Tres días postrado en mi cama a consecuencia de una buena gripe no me han hecho otra cosa más que pensar en buenos momentos para tratar de sobrellevar esto lo mejor posible. La mejor terapia: BALI. KIRRA COMES ALIVE

El debate sobre la recuperación de la ola de Kirra ha levantado mucha polémica. Desde hace tiempo ya no se bombea arena de manera constante a la ola de Snappers; esto ha hecho que las corrientes de arena naturales vuelvan a su sitio y es por ello que la ola de Kirra se esta recuperando. En Coolangatta, en lineas generales, nadie se quejaba de la perdida de Snappers ya que Kirra, según dicen, es igual o mejor que Snappers. Yo pude ver de primera mano como los bancos de arena de Snappers poco a poco se estaban desplazando hacia Kirra; prueba de ello eran las grandes rocas que salían en la segunda sección de la ola. Hoy os dejo este video donde se puede ver que la ola de Kirra es de clase mundial.



The debate on the recovery of the wave of Kirra has raised much controversy. Its been long time since there is no sand pumped continuously to the wave of Snappers, this has meant that the natural sand flows back into its place and that is why Kirra wave is recovering. In Coolangatta, in general terms, no one complained about the loss of Snappers as they say, Kirra is equal or better than Snappers. I could see firsthand how the sand banks of Snappers were gradually shifting to Kirra, as evidenced by the large rocks were out in the second section of the wave. Today I leave you this video where you can see that the wave of Kirra is world class.

Por estas fechas hace un año andaba planeando mi viaje de Australia. Goldcoast fue mi destino y como muchos surfistas en esta época del año, es el destino más apropiado. Hoy unas imágenes de los míticos spots que rompen en esa zona.

Alguien necesita una excusa para ir a las Menta´s??? Aquí un video del King Millenium este pasado mes de Octubre cuando fue el Tsunami. Afortunadamente no les ocurrió nada gracias a la precaución de David de dormir siempre en aguas profundas.

LA VACA GIGANTE EN LA TELE

Acabo de encontrar este video que fue emitido ayer por Antena 3 en su tercera edición de noticias. Como ya anunciaba en entradas anteriores, las olas no fueron todo lo grandes que se esperaban pero aún así tuvieron buenas condiciones. Nuevamente felicitar a mis amigos cántabros que dejaron el liston bien alto y que además nos dedicaron unas palabras.



I just found this video that was released yesterday by Antena 3 in its third edition of news. As i announced in previous posts, the waves were not as big they had hoped but still good conditions. Again congratulations to my friends.

CONOCE A DEREK DUNFEE (FULL MOVIE)

En Junio de 2008 Derek Dunfee se rompió dos huesos de su pierna mientras surfeaba en Cloudbreak, Fiji. Dos días más tarde, Derek fue sometido a una operación quirúrjica en San Diego, California. El resultado: 8 tornillos y una placa de titanio en su pierna. En Noviembre del mismo año, 5 meses y medio más tarde del accidente, Derek ganó el premio Billabong XXL de ola más grande a remo. Esta película (completa) enseña lo que paso en esos 5 meses y medio para que Derek llegara a ser premiado con la ola más grande.

On June 2008, Derek Dunfee severely broke two bones in his leg while surfing Cloudbreak, Fiji. Two days later Derek underwent surgery in San Diego, California: eight screws and a titanium plate were installed into his leg. On november, 5 1/2 months after Derek broke his leg, Derek caught the winning 2008/2009 Billabong XXL paddle in wave. This short film shows what happened in those 5 1/2 months leading up to Derek´s XXL winning wave.

LA VACA GIGANTE

FELICIDADES a todos los participantes de la Vaca Gigante y en especial a mi buen amigo Dani que este año ha pasado su manga frente a rivales de muy alto nivel con un surfing muy cómodo y fluido. También felicidades al resto de Cántabros que han participado y que sin duda han dejado el listón bien alto.

Las condiciones no han sido las óptimas pero si han tenido buenas series y aunque haya estado muy justo (con olas de 4m), ha sido suficiente para pasar un buen día y en general una buena jornada.

Espero que muy pronto cuelguen los videos del evento.

BUENAS CONDICIONES EN EL NORTE

Así amanecían hoy en el Norte... condiciones más que buenas después de un fin de semana repleto de olas. Las imágenes son cedidas por un amigo (Manu, de Quemalavida) que ha estado de tour por el País Vasco y Cantabria durante estos días.

Y si las condiciones se cumplen, hoy se da cita el campeonato de la Vaca Gigante. Os mantendré informados.

Today some pictures from the North of Spain. Good conditions after a weekend full of waves. CLAY IN BALI

AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! Increíbles imágenes de Clay Marzo en Bali el año pasado. Y porqué grito!!!! porque estuve en vivo y en directo en muchas de esas playas viendo como rodaban el video. De hecho, en las secuencias de Bingin tenemos fotos del mismo baño mientras desfasaba haciendo minitubos y super maniobras en la última sección llamada el "rompe-cocos". También asistimos a los baños en la derecha de Pererenan y ver ahora el video sabiendo que estabas tu en el agua... bufff vaya recuerdos! Disfrutar con este desfase de surf:

In fact, in the sequences of Bingin, i have pictures of the same bath. We also attended the baths is the right of Pererenan, and now, knowing that i was there... bufff good memories. FE DE ERRATAS: en la pasada entrada, Dane si participó en el Pipe Masters, lo hizo con molestias, pero si participó; de hecho cayó en semifinales.

DANE LESIONADO EN HAWAII

Dane Reynolds se ha lesionado la rodilla a finales del mes pasado en Hawaii. No participó en el Pipe Masters por molestias y parece que la lesión es más complicada de lo que al principio pensaba. Hoy pasa por quirófano para ser operado. Los doctores aseguran que no hay mayor complicación y que la recuperación será rápida, así es que seguro que muy pronto le volvemos a ver volar. Dane Reynolds has a knee injury late last month in Hawaii. He didnt make the Pipe Masters cause of the pain and it seems that the injury is more complicated than he initially thought. Today is on the operation room for surgery. Doctors say that there is no mayor complications and the recovery will be quick, so im confident that we will see him soon flying again. Here is a video "mix" of Dane.

LA VACA GIGANTE

Este finde parece que se va a celebrar el campeonato de la Vaca Gigante. Desde aquí un saludo y mucha suerte para todos los competidores, en especial unos cuantos amigos mios de Santander que estan en el cuadro de competición. Aqui un video de la pasada edición... Nada que envidiar a cualquier otro campeonato de olas grandes.


This weekend seems to be holding the championship of La Vaca Gigante. From here a greeting and good luck to all competitors, specially to some friends of mine from Santander who are in the competition call. Here is a video of last year... Nothing to envy to any other big-wave championship.

Al hilo del video de ayer y de los buenos recuerdos que me trae a la cabeza, hoy vuelvo a memorar aquellos baños épicos en Bali, aqui el trailer del campeonato de Padang Padang de este año pasado. Las imágenes son del 2009 donde tuve la oportunidad de asistir.

Me saltan lágrimas cada vez que veo nuevos videos editados en Bali, en la ola de mi casa y además en las mismas fechas en las que yo estuve. Aquí un video de Josh Kerr, y pasándolo a camara lenta me he visto remontando hacia el pico en Pererenan.

COMO SE HACE UN AEREO?

Seguro que en más de una ocasión te has preguntado... como se hace un buen aéreo??? También es seguro que yo no tengo la respuesta absoluta, pero si un buen video a cámara super lenta donde podréis estudiar todos los detalles desde el inicio hasta el fin de un aéreo.
Nota interesante: observar como flexa la tabla en la recepción con el labio, es flipante:

Surley that in more than one occasion you have wondered.. how can i do a good air? Its also certain that i have not the absolute answer, but certainly i have a good super slow motion video where you can study every detail from the beginning to the end of an air.
Interesting side note: watch closely how the board flexes at the reception with the lip, its amazing.

VIAJE DE SANTANDER

Acabo de llegar de Santander donde he pasado este fin de semana rodeado de buenos amigos que no veía desde hacía mucho tiempo. Antes de continuar, tengo que agradecer la hospitalidad y bienvenida que he tenido ya que como siempre me han hecho sentir como en casa. Ha sido un finde con olas regulares aunque divertidas. El sábado, con el pico del swell, me di dos baños en lugares muy remotos entre si aunque finalmente di con una derecha muy divertida que aguantó muy bien los vientos tan huracanados del Sur. La temperatura ha sido muy agradable y mi encuentro con el neopreno y el agua a 12 grados ha sido menos traumático de lo que imaginaba. Lamentablemente no ha habido reportaje ni fotos y video pero para las siguientes escapadas retomaré las cámaras como amigas inolvidables para el viaje, jejeje. I just arrived from Santander where i spent this weekend surrounded by good friends that i have not seen for a long time. Before continuing, i have to thank the hospitality and welcome that i´ve had and as always they made me feel like home. It was a weekend with regular but fun waves. On saturday, with the peak of the swell, i went to the water two times in very remote areas between them but eventually i founf a very fun right hander somewhere where the wind was ok. The temperature was very pleasant and my "meeting" with cold water and wet suit has been less traumatic than i imagined. Unfortunately there is no pictures or videos but for the following trips i will take the cameras. To enjoy what is left of this sanday, i leave you this video.

EL MEJOR REGALO DE REYES!

Felices Reyes a todos! y mi entrada de hoy merece una especial mención ya que mi regalo llega este finde cuando por fin suba al Norte a surfear. Las previsiones parecen bastante decentes y ansío con ganas volver al agua y sobre todo ver a mis viejos amigos. Mañana sacaré el neopreno acartonado del trastero, rascaré la parafina de verano y volveré a sentir ese hormigueo en el estómago antes de llegar al agua jejeje.

My entry today deserve a special cause my gift comes this weekend with this forecast. The forecast look pretty decent and i look forward with desire to return to the water and especially to see my old friends. Tomorrow i will scratch the wax from my board and i will get one more time the feeling in the stomach before reaching the water hehehe.

IMPRESIONANTE REVENTÓN

Me llegan unas fotos de mi padre después de una épica sesión de Kite donde un desafortunado incidente en el agua ha ocasionado este destrozo. Y es que surfear en determinadas zonas de Bali con Kite no es cosa sencilla; las rocas no dan tregua y los errores se pagan muy caros:

I get some pictures of my father after an epic session of Kite. An unfortunate incident in the water has caused this destruction. Kitesurfing in some areas of Bali is no simple matter, the rocks do not let up and mistakes are very expensive.

De igual modo que despedía el 2010 con Bali, hoy doy la bienvenida al 2011 con imágenes recientemente grabadas por mi padre en Canggu, Bali, donde yo solía despertar cada mañana... Hoy lo hago a miles de Km de allí aunque nuestro espíritu sigue alli.
