BRO IN BALI

Por fin me llegan noticias de mi hermano en Bali. Llegó este pasado martes y esta disfrutando de la vida que algunos hemos llevado, jejeje. Jaime (mi padre, de http://flysurfbali.blogspot.com/) esta haciendo de gran anfitrion y las excursiones y sitios a los que les está llevando estan siendo de lo mejor. Podéis seguir sus aventuras en su Blog.

I finally received news form my brother in Bali. He arrived this past Tuesday and he is enjoying the life that some of us have been, hehehe. Jaime (my father, http://flysurfbali.blogspot.com/) is the great host and the tours and sites to which they are carrying are the best. You can follow his adventures in his blog.
And like no other way, here´s a photo of my brother on the waves ... after a broken femur and without having taken nearly a surfboard in his life, you can say that he´s good!

TABLA DE SURF INTELIGENTE

Que el surfista mejore su técnica y que el fabricante pueda producir tablas con mejores prestaciones son las funciones del nuevo prototipo presentado ayer por Tecnalia y Pukas. La revolución tecnológica ha llegado al mundo de las olas.

El centro de investigación Tecnalia y la empresa Pukas presentaron ayer un prototipo de una tabla de surf con tecnología integrada que, mediante un sistema de sensores electrónicos, permite recoger mucha información sobre su rendimiento y comportamiento en el agua.

Se trata de la primera tabla con este tipo de tecnología que existe en el mundo, según aseguraron sus promotores en su presentación en Donostia, en la que participó el surfista zarauztarra Aritz Aranburu, quien no pudo llevar a cabo debido al mal tiempo la demostración que estaba prevista en la playa de la Zurriola.

El director de la Unidad de Sistemas Industriales de Tecnalia, David Sánchez, y el responsable de Producción de Pukas, Ignacio Abaitua, explicaron que el prototipo es una solución tecnológica que recaba y trasmite de forma informática datos reales, de gran utilidad para que el surfista mejore su técnica y el fabricante pueda producir nuevas tablas con mayores prestaciones.

Con un peso adicional de unos 650 gramos respecto de una tabla convencional, el prototipo incorpora una serie de dispositivos electrónicos -sensores y hardware- que transfieren datos a un ordenador sobre velocidad, verticalidad de los giros, flexión, torsión o pisada.

Han asegurado que este proyecto originará "una revolución" en la fabricación de las tablas de surf, dado que se dispondrá de un mapa de los puntos críticos y sus propiedades, lo que posibilitará incorporar materiales diversos, en cantidades y con propiedades determinadas.

En el proceso de investigación y desarrollo del proyecto se han caracterizado las propiedades mecánicas de las tablas de surf, con el objetivo de cuantificar su comportamiento mecánico y poder adaptarlo a la medida de cada surfista.

Surfing is still a sport governed by feelings. Most innovations in board design and manufacture, as well as analysis of surfing technique, have been the result of “trial and error” procedures and the experiences of shapers, trainers and surfers. The driving forces behind this joint project, PUKAS and TECNALIA, aim to “turn feelings into facts and figures” and provide as yet unquantified data that can be directly applied to improve the features of surfboards, the technical performance of surfers and measurement of parameters during competition.
This research project will revolutionise surfboard manufacturing processes, as they will provide a map of the critical points and their properties, something that will make it possible to incorporate a determined amount of various materials with known properties at specific locations on the surface of surfboards.

In order to carry out the project, we had to install the data gathering electronics – sensors and hardware – in the surfboard itself to transfer the data to a computer. In addition, we characterised the mechanical properties of surfboards so as to quantify the mechanical behaviour of the same and adapt it to the requirements of individual surfers. We have also defined laboratory tests that allow us to quantify the stiffness/flexibility of boards and their resistance to breakage

KELLY SLATER EN LA CAMPAÑA DEL 2011

Kelly Slater inicia su campaña en el 2011 en circunstancias rodeadas de rumores por su retirada. Está comprometido con el Quik Pro, pero eso es todo por ahora."Las olas en Snapper me despiertan lo suficiente como para encontrar motivación", dice KS,"pero me encantaría conseguir una nueva victoria en el Quiksilver Pro. Eso será una excelente manera de salir, o una gran manera de iniciar otro campaña ".

Cuando se le preguntó sobre sus planes para el año, Slater era tan evasivo como siempre. "Honestamente, no puedo responder a preguntas sobre el año en este momento. He pensado en hacer una gira de despedida hawaiiana y decir adios, ya he pensado en retirarme después de este evento de verdad. "

Si Slater gana el Quik Pro expertos en su entorno dicen que es difícil de creer que vaya a ser capaz de abandonar. Aquí Slater con su quiver para Snappers:

When quizzed about his plans for the year, Slater was as non-committal as ever. “I can’t honestly answer any questions about the year right now. I’ve thought about doing a farewell aloha tour and saying bye, and I’ve thought about retiring after this event for real."

If Slater wins Snapper we find it hard to believe he'll be able to walk away.

Ahi estoy, haciendo fotos para todos los fieles seguidores del Blog jajaja. Para ver el video entra en la entrada anterior de hoy.

QUIKSILVER PRO 2011

Este sábado arranca el campeonato del mundo. Parece que fue ayer cuando estaba en Gold Coast anunciando el arranque de temporada el año pasado 2010, y ya ha llegado el campeonato del 2011! veremos a ver lo que nos depara, pero seguro que mucho y buen surf.



This Saturday kicks off the ASP world tour. It seems like yesterday when I was in Gold Coast announcing the start of the season of last year 2010, and we are already in the championship of 2011! Lets see what´s ahead, but I'm sure that a lot of good surfing.

TAJ BURROW WINS BURLEIGH PRO

Taj Burrow gana por segundo año consecutivo el "Breaka Burleigh Pro" celebrado en Burleigh Heads con condiciones no muy buenas de viento que afectó al tamaño de las olas.

Taj Burrow sacó su repertorio de maniobras donde dejó latente su facilidad para hacer aéreos con lo que pudo sellar su victoria.

Tuvo el control de la final durante sus 40 minutos, y cerró con un 7,57 y 7,9 para una suma total de 15,47, pero fue seguido de cerca por Joel Parkinson que obtuvo la mejor puntuación de ola con un excelente 8.23.

Parkinson se quedó a un 7.24 para llevarse la victoria, pero fue incapaz de encontrar una segunda ola decente en los últimos minutos.

Taj declaraba: "Es genial vovler a ganar de forma consecutiva aquí en Burleigh - Parko estuvo muy cerca de mi y hubo una apretada final; siempre es bueno ganar una final de calidad así - Ciertamente espero que la historia se pueda repetir como el año pasado, y la semana en el Quiksilver Pro me vaya igual. (Al año pasado Taj ganó el Burleigh y seguido la primera prueba del WCT en Snappers)

"Burleigh es una ola emocionante, incluso en los días pequeños como el de hoy,- Ha sido otro acontecimiento increíble"

Parkinson estaba satisfecho con su resultado, pero también un poco decepcionado de no haberse llevado la victoria.

Declara Parko: "Ha sido un gran calentamiento para todos nosotros, pero ya sabes, cuando estás en una final con gente como Taj y Bede, ellos son realmente a los que quiero ganar y yo estaba por ahí persiguiendo la victoria - necesitaba una última ola decente y esto no sucedió, pero bueno, ha sido un gran evento, y Taj siempre iba a ser el hombre a batir en condiciones como esas".

Bede Durbidge, con el tercer puesto en la final, y dentro de los tres mejores surfistas del WCT, parece estar listo para el evento de apertura del "2011 ASP World Tour - Quiksilver Pro" de la próxima semana.



TAJ BURROW won his second consecutive Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Breaka Burleigh Pro held in wind affected good high performance 1m (3 feet) surf at Burleigh Heads today.

The fast, talented number 1 seed and world number 3 rated surfer displayed a full repertoire of moves including his renown aerial talents to seal today’s win.

Burrow lead for most of the 40 minute final, building his scores throughout and closing on a 7.57 and 7.9 for a final two wave tally of 15.47 but was challenged late when Joel Parkinson scored the highest single wave of the final, an excellent 8.23.

It left Parkinson chasing a 7.24 to take the win but he was unable to find a second decent wave in the final minutes.

“Great to win back-to-back here at Burleigh – Parko came hard at me near the end which made for a tight final and it’s always good to win a quality final like that - I certainly hope history can repeat and I follow up next week at the Quiksilver Pro – I’ll take that for sure,” said Burrow.

“Burleigh’s an exciting wave, even small like today, its high performance and you can really surf these waves and score – it’s been another amazing event.”

Parkinson was satisfied with his result today but also disappointed not to take the win.

“It has been a great warm up for all of us but you know, when you’re in a final with guys like Taj and Bede you really want to win and I was out there chasing the win – I needed a decent final ride and it didn’t happen but all up, a great event, Taj was always going to be the man to beat in conditions like that,” said Parkinson.

Bede Durbidge placed third in today’s final and all three top placed surfers look ready for the opening event to the 2011 ASP World Title Tour – next week’s Quiksilver Pro.

FIN DE SEMANA

Intenso fin de semana en el Norte. Las condiciones no han sido tan buenas como esperaba pero sin duda he disfrutado de buenos baños aunque las condiciones no hayan sido las mejores. Esta mañana, con el pico del swell, he tenido una sesión corta pero intensa en La Isla; las series tardaban mucho y estaba justo de tamaño, pero he cogido una muy buena de la serie que me ha valido por todo el día.

En otro orden de cosas, hoy os dejo unas imágenes del conocido surfista Sunny Garcia y sorprendentemente Jeremy Flores, en un altercado con un local australiano en la playa de Burleigh Heads durante una sesión de free surf. Allí el localismo es feroz, pero en este caso, Sunny ha impuesto su ley (como de costumbre) acompañado de Jeremy Flores. Ambos han sido descalificados automaticamente del campeonato del Burleigh Heads aunque no se han presentado cargos de manera oficial.
La ASP no aprueba ningún tipo de violencia y el comité de disciplina estudiará los hechos. (Mas info abajo)



Miss the action at Burleigh Heads this weekend? Here’s what happened…

-Sunny’s teenage son got into it with a couple other surfers at Burleigh Heads during a freesurf.
-Jeremy Flores, who is pals with Sunny and surfing with his son, paddled over as the situation escalated.
-After seeing what was happening, Sunny ran down the point, put the guy into a choke hold and dunked him a few times.
-Sunny snapped on a guy on the beach who filmed it all happen.

As of now no charges have been filed against either ASP World Tour surfer. However, Sunny and Jeremy were promptly disqualified from the event. According to a post news.ninemsn.com.au, Sunny has also been banned from an upcoming event in Newcastle.
Following a physical altercation today, Jeremy Flores, has been disqualified from the event. The Association of Surfing Professionals does not condone any form of physical violence and we have strict rules in place for the conduct of any member both Jeremy and Sunny have also been referred to the ASP rules and disciplinary committee who will review the facts and make a decision if further action is required

Otra vez hay un buen parte para el Norte, así es que nos ponemos nuevamente rumbo a Cantabria para surfear!; sobre todo el domingo que pinta muy bueno con mar de más de 3m y vientos del Sur. Sin duda llevan unas semanas en el Norte con unas condiciones épicas. Aquí un par de videos que reflejan lo que digo. Al loro al baño del miércoles en Mundaka. Again with a good forecast for the North, we are going once again to Cantabria for a great surf on Sunday that looks very good with good swell (more than 3m) and southerly winds. Sin duda hoy tengo una imagen curiosa dentro del mundo del surf. Es posible surfear con skis, y encima con olas de 20 pies???? pues para quién tenga alguna duda que vea esta foto. Increible. Y más abajo un video de lo que supone surfear con este tipo de olas... sin comentarios.

Quién da más??? cada vez este sector busca nuevos y mayores retos. El mundo del surf sigue evolucionando y cada día las principales marcas de surf nos sorprenden con nuevos y evolucionados modelos de tablas para cualquier tipo de condición que quieras surfear. SURF IN COLD WATER

Un swell de 4m con vientos del Oeste rolando a vientos del Sur... el agua a 13 grados y las nubes rondando nuestra presencia. Muy lejos quedaron esas escenas en bañata, pero por lo menos seguimos disfrutando del mar y sus olas. Como siempre agradecer a MTKS su esfuerzo con la cámara ya que ha tenido que aguantar temperaturas poco agradables.

El sábado entro mar, bastante mar, pero los vientos del Oeste nos dejaban pocas opciones y nos garantizamos en baño en Laredo. A última hora pasamos por La Isla ya que el viento había bajado, pero yo llegue tarde para entrar (despues de un baño de casi 3 horas).

El domingo nos levantamos con Sur muy fuerte aunque el mar había bajado considerablemente. Esperamos al buen punto de marea y hemos pillado buenas bombas en Helgueras; esta vez sin fotos porque no había ser que aguantara en la playa jejeje.

A 4m swell with winds veering from west to south... water at 13 degrees and the clouds hovering our presence. We were far away from those scenes in swimsuit, but at least we enjoy the sea and its waves. As always thanks to MTKS and her efforts with the camera cause she has had to endure unpleasant temperatures.
On Saturday a big swell came, but the westerly winds left us few options and we guarantee our bath in Laredo. Late in the afternoon i pass by La Isla cause the wind had dropped, but I arrived late to enter (after 3 hours of surfing).
On Sunday we woke up with very strong south winds although the sea had gone down considerably. We wait for the good point of tide and we caught good bombs in Helgueras, this time without pictures because the temperature was so horrible that noone could be on the beach.

Y CON ESTAS ME LAS PIRO!

Como un niño delante de un juguete, como un pobre delante de un billete, como un hambriento delante de un plato, como un surfer delante de un buen parte... jejejeje. Así estoy yo; el domingo pinta bien con vientos Sur, buenos periodos y mar grande. Seguramente no haya tantas opciones, pero lo que es seguro es que habrá olas y quién busque bien será recompensado.
Nos vemos el domingo porque hasta entonces estaré buscando ese spot jejeje.


As a child in front of a toy, like a poor in front of a bill, like a hungry before a meal, like a surfer in front of a good forecast ... hehehehe. So am I, on Sunday things looking pretty good; South winds with good periods and great waves. Surely there is not going to be many choices, but what is certain is that there will be waves and the one who look for it will be rewarded. See you on Sunday because until then I'll be looking for that spot hehehe.

Me llega a través de un amigo este video grabado en el Norte en estos últimos días tan buenos que han tenido. Viendo estas condiciones se te quita de la cabeza surfear en cualquier otra parte del mundo... a ver si hay suerte y este finde "suena la flauta" para tipos como yo que sólo podemos disfrutar de este deporte los fines de semana.

LA FACTORIA DE SURFERS

Jack Freestone ha tenido un ascenso meteórico en los últimos dos años. Proveniente de la "Factoria de surfers" de la Gold Coast, en su adolescencia se ha dedicado a codearse con Mick Fanning y Joel Parkinson. Los primeros resultados de Jack dejó entrever su potencial, pero fue su victoria en el Mundial Junior Oakley Pro cuando ha enviado un mensaje al mundo del surf. Después de destrozar y arruinar mi quiver en Bali, estoy como loco por reponer algunas tablas. Con las nuevas tecnologías y los nuevos diseños inspirados en los surfers más radicales cada vez se hace más complicado acertar con tu tabla mágica ya que hay una inmensa variedad de modelos.
